Schoelly Imaging Selects Worcester as Home for its Headquarters...
Worcester, Mass. (February 18, 2009) - City Manager Michael V. O’Brien announced today that Schoelly Imaging, Inc., a service and sales organization for medical and engineering applications, will relocate its headquarters to Worcester, Mass. The four-year-old company will lease approximately 13,000 square feet of space at 722 Plantation Street, a former blighted, tax title property that housed an electroplating company for several years. The company currently employs 28 people and intends to create additional jobs over the next two years.
According to David A. McNally, President of Schoelly Imaging, Inc., "Worcester is an ideal location for our company. As a center for manufacturing, it boasts a highly qualified workforce, attractive spaces and affordable costs. We scouted much of Central Massachusetts, and Worcester was clearly the right place for us. We appreciate the assistance from the City of Worcester and the Commonwealth to make this deal happen.
"Founded in 2005, Schoelly Imaging, Inc. was formed as a joint venture between Schoelly Fiberoptic GmbH of Denzlingen, Germany and David A. McNally of Holden, MA. The company is the North American partner for Schoelly Fiberoptic and provides technical sales and service for all Schoelly manufactured products, including existing products and new developments.
"In spite of the doom and gloom headlines about the current state of the economy, we have stayed focused on economic development and the expansion of our tax base," said Worcester City Manager Michael V. O’Brien. "Through aggressive marketing and collaboration, we have made great strides in creating conditions that foster opportunity for businesses, from site search assistance to expedited permitting to loan programs.
"722 Plantation Street was renovated by Poor Farm Brook Development, LLC in 2007 and currently houses IBS Commodities, Inc. IBS will continue to occupy space in the building and Schoelly Imaging will occupy the space once building improvements are completed in early Spring. Glickman Kovago & Company was the broker for this transaction.
The City of Worcester’s Economic Development Division and the Massachusetts Office of Business Development have provided site search assistance and technical support over the last two years to Schoelly Imaging. The Site Search Assistance Program, administered by the Economic Development Division, is designed to identify available land and building space in coordination with local real estate professionals and property owners. The program coordinates the development efforts of the Economic Development Division with the knowledge and resources of the commercial real estate community to meet the real estate needs of companies, small businesses and developers and helps them locate, stay and grow within the city.
